New stations fund undoes Beeching cuts

Good news for three communities on the 50th anniversary of the Beeching cuts

In March 2013, the Department for Transport announced:

"On the day before the 50th anniversary of the Beeching Report, the Transport Secretary is also able to confirm the 3 stations most likely to be built with support from the government’s New Station Fund. These are Ilkeston in Erewash (Derbyshire), Pye Corner in Newport West (South Wales) and Lea Bridge in Walthamstow (East London). We will make a final announcement in May. "

More funding is expected to be announced by the Department for a further round of funding later in 2013. So this could mean a station (re)opening near you soon. Further information will be published by the Department in due course.
