Using eco-driving techniques can save significant sums of money and reduce carbon emissions for very little effort or hassle. For an average car fuel savings of £250 to £500 are likely, with carbon dioxide savings of 300kg to 650kg per year, about the same as a single short-haul flight. It means safer, more comfortable driving, and a better environment for non-motorised road users. Avoiding excessive acceleration or braking not only reduces noise pollution, it also reduces air pollution. In fact in central London, over half of particulates - the most dangerous form of air pollution - from traffic now comes from tyre and brake wear.
